Liana Badr

Liana Badr was born in 1952 in Palestinian Jerusalem. She left for Jordan in 1967 with her father, where she began her studies at the University of Jordan. She was unable to complete her education, as she was forced to leave Jordan in 1970 because of Black September.

Badr, like many other Palestinians of the Diaspora, has resided in Beirut, Damascus and Tunis.

Her first novel, .A compass for the Sunflower. (Busala Li .Abbad ash-Shams) was published in 1979. She has also written a number of stories for children and three collections of short stories: .Qisas al-Hub wa-l-Mulahaqa. (Stories of Love and Pursuit), 1983, .A Balcony Over Fakahani. (Nafidha .al al-Fakahani), 1983 and .Ana Auriyd an-Nabar. (I want the Day), 1985. More recently she has published two further novels .Nujum Ariha. (The Stars of Jericho), 1993 and .Ayn al-Mira.a. (the Eye of the Mirror. which was published in English by Garner in 1995. She now lives in Jericho where she is at present the head of the Audio-Visual Department a the Palestinian Ministry of Culture.
