Huda Shaarawi

1879 - 1947

Married her cousin at the age of 13, and was divorced 7 years later. Was leader in the first egyption women's nationalist demonstration in 1919. Became president of women's nationalist organization, founder and president of the egyption fiminist union, and president of the Arab feminist union. Founded and helped found several Arabic and French newsletters for feminist literature. Published her memories: in Arabic and was translated into English, "Harem years: The memoirs of an egyption feminist" Gave numerous speeches and lectures in the Arab world and Europe regarding feminism
